After two long, but exciting days of my son Isaac photographing my pieces, it was time for my portrait …gulp. I find it hard to put myself in front of the camera, but that is what we wanted for the website. Here is the shot that captured a transformational moment in my life.
Father and son each sharing a moment of realization about ourselves.
The sparkle in my eyes was from seeing the joy in his eyes and this huge smile as he was lighting me. After the first shutter click, as he checked the image, and right before my eyes, I think he recognized how great a photographer he is. His photographs aren’t just by luck either. Isaac did tons of research before buying the two right Fujifilm cameras, then spent weeks learning how to use them. Next was experimenting on how to use the two big studio lights and backdrop borrowed from my friend Stephen Hall.
You’d never know I was his first studio portrait, especially the way he directed me, and set the mood, and used the gear. He knows me pretty well, so he knew what expressions he wanted to capture, and after that first click, with our new personas, we had a blast together. Of course Cathy Ann was there with us, off camera, making me smile…please don’t ask how.
After the portrait shot, he wanted a few in situ shots in my workshop…I mean my studio. I love them too!
