Artist Statement
I make art that moves. I conceptualize, design, and sculpt mobiles and standing mobiles. I’ve always loved flight and creating mobiles lets part of my soul be free to soar, wander, and explore.
My sculptures are informed through the eyes of a prairie boy who is always wondering how and why, while creating pieces that uniquely distill the essence of the subject. These range from capturing the beauty in the familiar, to moments of discovery, or exploring my own life and that of other artists.
Inspired by a lifetime of curiosity and my own quest for balance, meaning and relevance, my pieces always illustrate a story and inevitably end up at the intersections of my love of art, travel and science. Being very introspective, some pieces are didactic, others explore the paradoxes in life, while other pieces are more playful.
I mix modern and kinetic art to create approachable, responsive pieces that engage viewers in a dialogue of shapes, color and movement. My pieces range from representational to stylized abstract and reductionist.
My medium consists of aluminum fins and stainless steel rods balanced in dynamic equilibrium with just the right amount of gravity to capture my subjects energy in a calming sensual way.
